It's Valentine's Day! The day where all of us who are single (and in my case, have been for a loooooong time) gag over all the couples around us and eat chocolate and Ben and Jerry's ice cream.
But hey, today's a day of love -- and not just for the couples. I absolutely love my friends, and I am so blessed with a wonderful, loving family that I get to see this weekend. I am very thankful for what I do have, even if that doesn't include a significant other. For all of you other single ladies out there, don't worry. If you don't have a guy right now, that just means that you haven't settled for anything less than you deserve. You deserve someone who will treat you like it's Valentine's Day every day of the week, not just once a year. Personally, I'm still waiting for that one amazing guy meant to be my future husband, and he's hopefully waiting for me too. And it doesn't seem worth it to be pining over all the other guys out there that can't make me as happy as he will someday. So instead of listening to Adele or Taylor Swift and wallowing in my female angst, I'm content today. I have my friends around me and a trip to see my family only a few short hours away.
I think I'll still eat my ice cream though.

Thoughts on a Tuesday Morning
So this morning started out great; despite struggling with myself --I'm not a morning person at all -- I got up early, made myself coffee, and my roommates and I got ourselves a spot in the campus suites, which is super exciting because we weren't sure if we'd get in or not. Today I'm also calling about a few jobs here and there to pick up some extra cash on the side, so hopefully that'll turn up something good.
I found a quote yesterday by Billy Joel -- "If you are not doing what you love, you are wasting your time." I love this a lot because I've been struggling a bit lately with worrying about others, money, and the time I have left for school. I have 4 years of school left, and that's going to be a lot of time invested. But it really doesn't matter what other people are saying or doing, and it doesn't matter how much time I have to put in to get to my job. I think the important thing is that we enjoy the journey up to where we're going. In a few years, I'll have a job to report to and most likely be spread apart from all of my friends. So I might as well live in the present, ignore the people who are giving me a hard time, and make sure that every minute of my day is spent doing what I love.
So with that, I think I'll go out and dominate this Tuesday. Here's to hoping the 2 readers (or less) I probably have at this point will do the same (:

A Little More About Me
A bit more background information about myself... I'm a sophomore in college going into Speech and Language Pathology, which means that eventually I'll be working as a Speech-Language therapist in a clinic, hospital, or elementary school. I absolutely love my future career; in fact, I'm working as a clinical experience intern right now in the clinic on campus. I just finished up a session this morning with a grad student, and it's so gratifying to be able to help. I love being able to interact with a client each week, and it proves to me even more each time that I'm on the right path. I have super great friends, both on my campus and ones that I keep in touch with from high school. I'm very lucky to have a wonderful, loving family back home as well. I am a Starbucks addict, which is probably apparent from the picture I chose on the right of my blog. I also love to read, and I tend to choose the classics -- Jane Eyre, The Hobbit, Pride and Prejudice, to name a few -- to read for fun in my spare time. I like to think I'm pretty musical; I love to sing and play piano, and I tend to compulsively harmonize to whatever music I happen to be listening to. In fact, I'm in the midst of a musical endeavor with 3 of my friends right now doing a bunch of covers and a few originals as well.
As far as my personal values and viewpoints, I'm a strong Christian, actively involved in InterVarsity (an on-campus ministry group) and a church group back home, but I don't like to push that on people right away. I try to treat everyone with love and kindness. I think that everyone has a story to tell, and they deserve to have someone who's willing to listen and draw out who they really are inside. I know from personal experience how tough it is to be yourself sometimes, so I like to be genuine with those around me so they can feel like they can do the same.

Why I started this blog
Hooray, my first post!
I actually started a different blog a while back, with no intention of ever making it public. I'll spare you those posts -- they're pretty boring. And I can't access them anymore because I forgot the password. Anyways, I never published anything because I don't always feel like I have anything important to say, and I didn't think it was worth anyone's time to put my thoughts onto a public site. But then a friend of mine started her own really inspiring blog recently, and it really got me to thinking... Maybe it only matters if I care what I have to say.
Maybe if something's important to me, it's important enough to put into words.
So that's why I started this blog. I needed somewhere to outlet my thoughts somewhere where it doesn't matter what people say or think as long as I'm sincere about what I'm typing. Hopefully what I have to say will resonate with someone out there.
